The Georgian Bay Geopark is Not an Aspiring Geopark.
Prior to 2026, all Geopark communications implied they were seeking UNESCO Global Geopark status.
Except they have not applied.
Now the Georgian Bay Geopark has been completely erased from the Canadian Geopark Network website.

Despite no official recognition, opposition and no defined timeline for when they will apply for aspiring status, the Geopark continues to work to brand and monetize all of Georgian Bay. Here are some of their activities:

After mutiple demands by muncipalities and First nations to be removed from their project, the Geopark no longer publishes this map.
Instead, the website now shows an artist’s rendition of their “map“.

What Does “Nominate Georgian Bay” Mean?
The new Georgian Bay Geopark Executive Director, Jeff MacInnis, has recently been asking people on his personal Facebook page to “nominate” Georgian Bay to become a UNESCO Global Geopark by simply saying “YES” in the comments.
There is just one problem: saying “YES” in a Facebook comment isn’t how you nominate a UNESCO Global Geopark.
